Lavatories shall be mounted with the rim or counter surface no higher than 34 in 865 mm above the finish floor.

If a knee space is provided and the object that you are reaching for is located no more than 20 from the edge of the counter the object must be mounted no higher than 48 a f f. If the clear floor space only allows forward approach to an object the maximum high forward reach allowed shall be 48 in 1220 mm. In transfer type shower compartments the controls faucets and shower spray unit shall be installed on the side wall opposite the seat 38 inches 965 mm minimum and 48 inches 1220 mm maximum above the shower floor and shall be located on the control wall 15 inches 380 mm maximum from the centerline of the seat toward the shower opening. Handles mounted on the base of the faucet will help ensure the installation meets this height requirement.

The department of justice published revised regulations for titles ii and iii of the americans with disabilities act of 1990 ada in the federal register on september 15 2010. These regulations adopted revised enforceable accessibility standards called the 2010 ada standards for accessible design 2010 standards or standards. Doors with 32 inches of clear opening width when a sliding door is fully opened or a hinged door is open 90 degrees. A 48 inch high limitation is required for all accessories except those mounted over obstructions including lavatory fixtures which are up to 20 inches deep.
